The Zoological and Botanical Park
Nestled on a wooded hill, Mulhouse’s Zoological and Botanical Park is one of the oldest in France. Its 25 hectares shelter more than 1,000 animals, including endangered species, and a remarkable botanical garden that changes with every season. An afternoon together among lemurs and lotus flowers easily turns into a coffee break on a shady terrace.
Canals and rivers
Mulhouse is crossed by the Rhône–Rhine Canal, the Doller and the Ill, which trace cool walks right through the city. Along the canal, the locks and moored barges recall the region’s river past. Renting a bike and following the greenways to Illzach or Riedisheim makes for a date that is both active and gentle.
Towards the southern Vosges
An hour’s drive away, the Thur Valley and the Ballon d’Alsace offer hikes, lakes and mountain chalets. In winter you share a warm munster; in summer a blueberry tart. On Lyad, members from Mulhouse share their favourite walks and inns; it is up to you to find someone to climb a little higher with.
